When I graduated college I dove into the corporate world in NYC and after several years and a few different positions I came up utterly disappointed. While most people just worked hard at climbing, I had this draining feeling because I wasn’t making an impact or connecting with my gifts and passions. “Should I stay in a comfortable corporate career and work for money or do I follow my heart and try to find something more meaningful? The scariest is not knowing what that meaningful thing is and not having money to fall back on at 25 years old, but I knew I wouldn’t find it unless I took a big left turn. After much internal debate, looking at enrolling in business school or working for a tech start up, I listened to my heart and broke away completely.
For almost a year I “got lost” traveling the world until I felt completely free. Some would see it as escapism but it was the most courageous and pivotal decision of my life. Upon my return I was committed to helping people live better while staying true to myself. My purpose became clear as day “to inspire people to higher levels of fitness, nutrition and mindsets”.
I founded Unite (formerly Fusion) in 2006, to fill a gap in the fitness industry and revolutionize group training. I saw that most training programs like spin, weights and yoga where wildly incomplete, often times didn’t provide individual coaching and lacked any real nutritional guidance. So I created a unique type of “gym”, where members come together to train in a smarter, more motivating way, guided by my balanced Heart.Muscle.Mind philosophy.
When the community responded so strongly to our philosophy and all-inclusive workouts, I solidified my management team: Juliet Burgh (VP & Nutrition Director) and Jesse Frank (VP & Fitness Director) and together we rebranded and prepared for expansion.
